One thing that you learn working at Renaissance Art: 8-1/2 X 11 inches is not the only standard paper size in the world. The rest of the world have their very own standards–we use both the North American and International standards to model our journals.

Maybe it’s the size variety, maybe it’s the alpha-numeric naming, but I’ve grown very fond of International standard paper sizes, especially A5. At approximately 5.5 X 8.5 inches, this Goldilocks paper size is perfect for writing, taking notes and sketching.

I want to share this paper size with the world. I figure it’s probably best to start with you guys : )

We are introducing our Renaissance Art Recession Refillable line with a 20% weekend discount

What Jen writes in the category description about sums it up except to say that these are less expensive than the hand stitched covers of our original refillable journal line and the larger 9X12 has 1/3 more pages.  All of the Recession Refillable Journals are less expensive than their original line counterparts.

If nothing else, the economic downturn has taught us to live by necessity instead of desire. And there are many of us that outward expression—writing, sketching, watercolors—is as necessary as breathing, eating and sleeping.

For those with which this resonates, we’ve designed a modestly-priced line from our high-caliber leather and same superlative craftsmanship in order to allow you to save without sacrificing your necessities.
Machine-sewn. Available in our rustic brown and black leathers with W&T/Flap w/ Snap/Single Strap/Double Strap (9×12, 8.5×11) closures.

The discount applies to the base price of the journal only and not the options.  The journal includes one refill with Arches Text Wove paper, a fine art, paper.

Next week we plan to introduce a new line of Refillable Journals.  Our current line is all hand-stitched around the cover, some with inside pockets, making them more expensive.  Our Recession line of things is targeted at being every bit as functional and durable but with a basic and less expensive design.  In this line we machine stitch the covers which reduces the time it takes to make them and will reduce your cost by about 1/3.

Here is our 9X12 version with a double strap closure.  Other closure options will be a traditional style, wrap and tie, a single strap and a flap with a snap closure instead of the tie.  This 9X12 size will have 128 pages vs the 96 in our current 9X12 refillable and will be about 2/3 the cost although pricing at this point is not set.  Our US size refillable journals will be compatible with most mainstream brand refills of the same size in case you would rather use their less expensive refills.

The available sizes will be 4X6, 5.5X8.5, A5, 8.5X11 and 9X12.  I have considered making an A6 and A4 size for our European customers and those who prefer the European sizes.
