    Beautiful!

  2. Matt Parker Says:

    That looks sweet!

  3. Rick Lobrecht Says:

Rally nice looking. Do you sell stand-alone straps? 8-)

  4. James H. Says:

Oh, gee, I have no idea what I’d use as a strap. But in the DIY spirit, I suppose I’d probably make my strap from something like the denim of an old pair of jeans or maybe the power cord from one of the several broken laptops I have in my closet.

  5. Michael Clemens Says:

Straps? Where we’re going, we don’t need straps.

Well, maybe we do. But I’ll need to win it first. :-) Braided leather would look good with this: something fancy to contrast the clean lines of the cover. Or maybe rig it up to a belt so it will never leave my side… ever…

Those brass rings put me in the mind of saddlebags. Think I can train my dog to be my planner-carrier?

  6. Lisa PT Says:

Want one of these systems at some point anyway. So I’m really raising my hand.

  7. J Manguy Says:

Cool! Hm, strap material? Leather would be good to match. Or embroidered cloth.

  8. Karen Johnson Says:

Lovely system. The only strap that would look right is leather, though - brown, distressed leather. Gorgeous! Please enter me in the contest. Thank you!

  9. Rebecca Says:

Looks great - I agree it would need a leather strap. I have just the material, I think!

  10. AmandaL Says:

I have some great printed linen that would look great with this. Probably doubled up on itself for strength.

  11. David Gray Says:

THIS is a hot idea….and I have just the thing to personalize it; Some dark brown, flat, wide braided rope/straps to protect the edges as you have. Oh yeah. This will be fun AND useful.

  12. Brian Jensen Says:

This is a great one! I’d definitely go leather on the strap.

  13. BadonHill Says:

Wow! Looks perfect for any artist and writer, like me! I know I could rig up a spiffy strap to go with that spiffy cover.

  14. Margaret Says:

I’d probably fix up an old guitar strap, that should work ok and look nice.

  15. Maciek Says:

This one looks great. I’d probably go leather.

  16. Terri Rathburn Says:

Please enter me in the contest!! I would love to have one of these to use.

  17. Kyle Says:

I think that the modular system is so inventive. It provides an easy way to carry a notebook along with some other essentials. I like the idea of trying to re-purpose a seat belt for the missing strap. Although, it might look better with leather straps (which seems to be the consensus thus far).

  18. steven Says:

I like this it would be perfect for me without a strap.

  19. Kristine Munoz Says:

this looks terrific sign me up!

  20. Jeff Says:

Sign me up! You all inspired me to learn leather working as a hobby… I think I’d try to make a leather strap out of something complimentary.

  21. Sharon Says:

This look great. I’d have to think whether it needs a strap or not.

  22. Celia Says:

Wow - How about carabiners to close the cover? They come in lots of sizes. Really nice looking cover. Count me in. Thanks.

  23. Leigh Says:

Another great looking product. Will have to think about the strap, but would look forward to it

  24. Cappydog Says:

This would be very nice. I love the color and style. Thanks for another great giveaway.

  25. DE Arizmendi Says:

Hmm… this would be very useful!

  26. Russell Says:

Very nice looking piece. I’d love to see one of these [modular covers] that could hold a laptop…

    Thanks for doing these giveaways!

  27. Jason Says:

This is gorgeous just the way it is. I like the brass/leather combination. It looks like a piece of saddlery. The rings are also functional because I can use them to tie the notebook shut with a random scrap of leather cord or a piece of ribbon. Or I can use them to attach the notebook to the outside of my normal briefcase if it’s too full in there. I’ve never understood a full shoulder strap on a notebook… just seems like overkill to me… Don’t get me wrong. The ones you make for this cover are beautiful. They’re just not for me. :)

  28. William Prusner Says:

awesome! looks great! please enter in contest! im a maker!

  29. Oliver Says:

Very nice… a new cover for my new job….

  30. Evan Brammer | Losing the World Says:

    A lovely piece of work.

  31. Rachel Says:

    Looks cool! Count me in!

  32. Chad Says:

    looks nice!

  33. Nic H. Says:

Very nice. I love this leather.

  34. Joel Says:

This would go so well with a leather satchel I picked up in Mexico. (Planning on upgrading to an RA bag some day). I’d likely attach it directly to the bag’s existing strap.

  35. Chuck Says:

Wow! Looks perfect for any artist or writer! I can see it with a leather strap, hanging over my shoulder when traveling.

  36. Jamie Says:

Hey, there’s drool on my keyboard! Oh, it was from me staring at yer Mod-ness.

  37. John Says:

    Looks great. Pick me!

  38. Joanna Says:

Very nice. Just the thing to hang from the shoulder strap of my laptop sleeve.

  39. sbpoet Says:

Does it need a strap? Hmmm. Beaded, I think.

  40. Steven Kidwell Says:

Would go perfectly with my RA bag!

  41. Bernie Says:

No Strap, Just keep it open all the time.

  42. Brenda Starr Says:

I love the rich color to the leather - the buckles really pop against it. I’d probably go around gathering hairs from my horses’ tails and braiding a strap along with some contrasting macrame twine.

  43. Jason Says:

Awesome. I’ve got a leather strap that would go perfectly with it.

  44. Chuck Says:

Thats a sharp system. I could see my self using the cover, case and strap.

  45. Scooter Says:

Wow, that’s lovely–I could imagine making a nice ribbon or fabric strap that would look great.

  46. TT Says:

I was delighted to find your website already bookmarked on my husband’s computer today. Your creative craftsmanship is, without a doubt, some of the best I’ve seen. I would used multiple strips of thin leather tied on place with macrame knots to complete the straps and make it my own. It would be great if I could find them in colors to complement the existing work of art.

  47. mrjlo Says:

    I ditto Bernie :)

  48. Tim Says:

That’s a great product. I would love to try it. I think I would clip it onto another bag instead of using a strap. Or maybe a canvas strap.

  49. Geo Lago Says:

Go to Strapworks.com and custom make a super set of straps in variety of colors and pick out a nice brass decoy buckle to go with it. I have done it in the past with bags when unhappy with the supplied strap.

  50. Will Says:

Paracord, maybe braided so there’d be more of it! you can never have enough paracord on your person (or on your modular cover) please enter me in the contest!!!

  51. joi edwards Says:

this would make a great travel sketchbook.

  52. jbo24 Says:

    Cool - count me in.

  53. Chuck_CC Says:

I think a nice wide flare of leather over a strong brass buckled strap would be great. something that would last for years and years.

  54. oscar Says:

I like the color of the leather, this lookss great

  55. kess Says:

    very, very nice!

  56. Carla Says:

That’s so cool! Count me in!

  57. Anna K Says:

I’d use a matching coloured leather strap that was adjustable with a similar coloured buckle, and to attach it to the journal, I would have those hook clip things that people use to attach key chains or wallets to belts. Would make a nice present for a guy.

  58. Danny P Says:

    I’m in. Let’s see…

I was going to add a couple caribiners onto my son’s old belt from Boy Scout Camp (Many Point). But, now that Will tipped me off to “paracord”, I might rethink this… ;)

  59. Tim Says:

Really great. My first comment didn’t post so I am trying again.

  60. Jennifer Says:

Looks great - I don’t know that it would need a strap.
Please enter me in the contest!

  61. Brad Says:

    I’m in!

  62. Joe Says:

*lol* It’s a nice piece. I’m waiting for levanger to bring out the newest style of whole punch; I just can not wait!!

As for a Strap, it would be easy with the right leather and some some basic tools… Like I have *grin*

  63. Ken Says:

    Simply Amazing

  64. frano Says:

it’s beautiful! what a rich color

  65. Nicole Says:

    Ohhh I love this!

I think either guitar straps or an Army surplus store strap would work….so many ideas!
    I would love it!

  66. Elizabeth Says:

I think either a leather strap to match or go completely contrasting with color and texture and do something like rich red or deep blue canvasy fabric.

  67. Paul Myers Says:

Nice! I would simply borrow my briefcase strap (made of similar colored camel skin) when carrying it over the shoulder, and place it inside the briefcase the rest of the time - giving my strap double duty. Heh. I said duty.

  68. ~HRH, DeAnna Says:

    Pick me!

  69. Meghan Says:

Ohhh, pretty! I think for a strap I would use a bunch of silky retro scarves that I’ve aquired over the years, very gypsy-like and flowy to the sturdy timelessness of the case. And then I could add scarves at whim (or take them out when I needed one for something else!)

  70. Jill Burnett Says:

Looks great as is. Don’t mind the strapless look. Or with strap is good too.

  71. Matt Bailey Says:

I’d use a piece of wire, small, thin wire to hold together.

  72. mannequin Says:

I would use broken guitar strings. For some reason, every time a string breaks here (which is quite often), I’ve saved the strings. For what? I did not know. Now I do!
    It’s fate, I tell you, it’s fate.

  73. David Says:

    Just what I’m looking for.

  74. Ken Says:

    I’d use my Patagonia Belt

  75. Zechariah Says:

Personally I think it would look best with a leather strap but since I don’t have one right now I would have to play around with what I have on hand. Woven bow strings might actually look pretty nice on this.

  76. Holly Says:

I think I commented on the incorrect post.

For a strap, I think I would use a braided small rope of hemp and brass rings- rustic, and yet very strong

  77. Steve Says:

Probably would try something with paracord. Thanks!

  78. Twila Price Says:

    Now that is gorgeous leather!

Me, I’d use the yoga strap I’ve been using for my Moleskine pouch w/belt loops.

  79. GrannyKass Says:

I just love the look of your leather products. Am always dreaming of having more.

  80. doug Says:

looks great, I’m in! can do the strap now

  81. dlb Says:

I have a soviet army map case that would look great with, both have very similiar rings for attaching a strap to.

  82. Daniel Edmonds Says:

    Awesome, as usual.

  83. Dana B. Says:

Wow…I love all of your leather goods. I bought one a s a gift for a friend and will definitely buy more gifts from here in the future. : )

    Dana B.

  84. Dana B. Says:

Oh, and I’d use some plastic bags, cut into strips, woven together to make a recycled strap.

  85. graycloud Says:

strap? i don’t need no strap - looks beautiful just the way it is.

  86. dan Says:

I think I’d use some old leather laces from a couple of old moccassins that are beyond repair. Maybe instead of braiding them I’d tie the odd lengths to some brass rings to string the strap together.

  87. Matt Says:

Once again, a great looking product!

  88. Debbie rice Says:

I love the product. I have the large messenger bag and love it. I would use leather with rustic buckles. Again, wonderful work that you do.

  89. Ken Says:

Can’t Wait to see if I won so I can use some Webbing as a strap.

  90. Tom Says:

    Why not go strapless?

  91. David Says:

W ould use my old leather belt, seems to fit the color. I would have to change the buckle, get back into the leatherworking.

  92. Jeea Says:

Hey what about an elastic leather strap?
I’m curious how this free giveaway works. This cover is tempting. =)

  93. Alaska Drew Says:

I have an ancient banana republic canvass and leather bag that belonged to my best friends parent’s, I found it in his crawlspace while we were playing poker in highschool and I used it for years. It finally broke down and I replaced it with a bag from you nice folks, but saved the old bag under my bed. Its got a couple of extremely broken in leather straps I would love to put to use.

  94. Ken Says:

I might even use the strap from my Messenger Bag that you made.

  95. westinbrevard Says:

    I don’t think I’d make a strap; looks like a portfolio I got years ago in Tangiers…

  96. Cappydawg Says:

This is just beautiful, wouldn’t mind one these. Thanks for the great contest!

  97. Flemming Says:

I followed a link from DIYplanner to your page. You got some great looking stiff here.

I got a little suggestion. A pocket for my business cards with a button or other “lockdown” would make it sooo much better :-)

    Regards
    Flemming

  98. Ben Says:

as usual, looks beautiful and unique- good work!

  99. Ken Says:

Happy Thanksgiving. Would be thankful to win and use it without a strap with Gratitude.

  100. Melissa Says:

    beautiful as usual! love it

  101. Flemming Says:

I can’t believe I misspelled Stuff! Stiff sounds so very wrong. Please forgive my rotten English :-)

  102. Zita Zaslove Says:

    Hello all,

This is an unique cover that looks like it cost a fortune. It has a beauty of its own.

  103. Pamm Says:

I would use a braided soft but strong, deerskin or goatskin with a few pony beads or nice glass beads. Red or black would be nice.

  104. Shelli Says:

No straps necessary - but how about the new army digital webbed straps for a little something different?

  105. Sue Says:

No disrespect to everyone who likes a leather strap, that would look nice. But I would vote for something unique. Remember the old macrame belts from the late 60’s? I would do a flat macrame braid in dark brown, with a bit of fringe on the end, and weave in a strand of seed beads. Beads of onyx, amber, sapphire, emerald and dark ruby would be the touch of distinction this cover deserves.

  106. Jay Jayatilake Says:

    Hello All
This is an Awasom cover I love your products. I just got a cover made for my Day Timer and enjoy a lot. Keep up excellent service and Marvolous work. This is another beautful work from Renaissance!
    Good Luck!
    Thank you!

  107. justelise Says:

This is an awesome cover. It’d be neat to win one.

  108. Earl Says:

I love the smell of leather in the morning.

  109. James Says:

Hmmmmm I have some light brown english bridle leather that would look great as a strap.

  110. Kevin Says:

Is this giveaway still open? I’d love to win a modular cover for my disc-bound system…

  111. Rudolf Says:

I would like to have that ;)

  112. Roz Says:

    Fair enough!

  113. Lee Says:

I think its a great looking design. I would probably use the metal chain off my old marching band hat for a strap. leather and metal always look cool lol.

  114. R Morey Says:

    love it!

  115. Howie Says:

This thing ROCKS!, (Well, it sounds better than saying “This thing leathers!”)

  116. KES Says:

    Looks cool

  117. Rick G Says:

I think the leather strap from the medical bag my grandpa left me would go perfectly with this. Plus it would be cool to re-use a part of his life!

  118. Sharon Says:

I can’t tell if this contest is still going, either, but I would consider a strap made from sturdy ikat or tapestry fabric samples. I’ve got some great stuff waiting to be used!

  119. Jeff C Says:

Beautiful, The strap I would use would be an old leather belt that I have grown out of (cough cough). alread has holes in it and a buckle.

  120. Debbie Rice Says:

I love the look. Anything in leather is always welcome. Your products are fantastic.

  121. Pruitt Hall Says:

Have to be leather, appropriately matched. Know what comes to mind? A Filson belt! Please enter me in the contest. Thanks :)

  122. Douglas Says:

Great idea! I could use it for notebooks (especially Circa) to take notes in various classes. It looks good and I can easily identify it in a backpack. Great addition to also work with a lap top in libraries!

  123. Rich Says:

This is a GREAT looking bag

  124. Jack Brockette Says:

Great web site and I am very impressed that you are giving away some of your wonderful crafted items. I would be honored to have any one of them. Stay well and have a wonderful holiday season and a great New Year in 2010.

    Thanks,

    Jack

  125. Heidi Miller Says:

I have a great old leather belt from my days living in Montana. I’d need to shorten it but the connector is already built in. Very hip cover.

  126. Monica Says:

That’s beautiful… BTW, I bought a journal from you all for my cousin a couple of years ago, and he still LOVES it. Thanks!

  127. Priscilla Says:

Since I’m on a sewing kick right now, probably cover a length of webbing strap with a funky fabric from my stash, add a few beads for panache and snaps for on/off.

  128. Kathy Says:

This beautiful cover screams for leather, but I don’t have any to work with. I like beading and jewelry making, so I would probably make a fabric strap and sew on small gemstone beads.

  129. Tom Says:

    Frump!

  130. Tom Angell Says:

This is a beautiful piece of work! Somewhere, I have an old hand-tooled leather strap about two inches wide that would look great with this cover.

  131. Jineen Says:

What a wonderful way to protect a disc-bound notebook! My first decision would not be what strap, but rather which notebook!

  132. Miriam Says:

Loom beaded strap, backed on leather, with matching metal clasps.

  133. Shelly Says:

Sweet! My strap would be a stardusted black material with an iridescent raven feather attached to it…a talisman to keep it safe!

  134. Hector L Says:

This cover is fine all by itself, better yet stash it in one of your Recession Bags!!

  135. Henneke Says:

Leather possibly…or some really funky material (old school tie?)…silk or velvet to add a feminine touch…lots of possibilities to try out if I get this :-) I love it!

  136. AndyH Says:

I am in the UK, so probably not entitled to enter, however it would be nice to see a picture of this open. It looks like the usual brilliant quality. I have 2 of your moleskine covers that will probably outlast me!

  137. Ken Burke Says:

Aged, waxed canvas with brass fittings. Strong, functional, full of mileage-driven character - and a nice complement to the leather. They’ll age well together. Rollabind pages have never looked so good!

  138. Jennifer Says:

This Giveaway is officially over. The winner is Ken , number 89.
