3X5 card Binder loaded using our Rustic Elegance leathers

We made this prototype version of the 3X5 card binder with a pen loop and an inside diagonal pocket.  This adds 1/2 inch to the overall width making the overall dimensions 5-1/2H X 4-5/8W or 14cm H X 11.5cm W.  At it’s thickest point (the spine) it is 1-1/4 inches or 3-1/4cm.

Below are two images showing an inside view with my orange Namiki VP fountain pen and a side view.  This one is shown with one inch rings.

I would be interested to know what your preference would be for ring size… 1/2, 3/4 or 1 inch (as shown).

  1. Twila Price Says:

I oscillate between one-inch and 3/4 inches, because I like having more cards, but I also like having a slim profile to toss in my pocket.

  2. jess Says:

I think I’d love the one-inch rings, mainly so it’ll hold more, which would make it easier to carry around at work and keep track of things.

    jess

  3. JonelB Says:

    3/4″
Because carrying too much is a bad idea, and I imagine the 3/4″ would fit the same amount of cards, without being too bulky for someone who wants to put it into a pocket.

  4. Michael Says:

1″. It’s simply more practical for me. I love the colors and the whole concept. Great job!

  5. fiona Says:

I think the one inch - could fit more cards & not be too bulky.

  6. Mark Says:

Just like that change nothing. Will they be available soon?

  7. Russell Says:

I’d tend towards the 3/4″… 1″ would be a bit bulky for my taste. Better yet, a 1/2″ D-ring would practically fit as much as a 1″ O-ring binder.

  8. karen chance Says:

Alas … nothing so beautiful in the Southern Hemisphere. Just what I need to begin grad school this month.

  9. Anna Says:

1/2 inch rings for sure — less bulky.

  10. Eric Montogmery Says:

I just recently bought the Folder Holder. Talk about a box full of awesome. :o) This could be interesting too, but I’m not sure about the blue…it’d hafta be darker leather too. :) Gimmee………

  11. zippyex Says:

I vote for 3/4″ and maybe 1/2″ but index cards are only a backup when I am not at a desk, so I am not a heavy user. But, it really looks nice and I would order one! Any chance of dark gray or dark mauve?

  12. genine Says:

I love this!!!!!! LOVE THE COLORS!!
I like the 1″ ring , would there be an option to switch the pen loop side. I usually write on them in the horizontal format and the loop might get in the way at the bottom.

Did i say how much i love the colors?!?! Is this one up for a give away of sale?

  13. ygor Says:

    Schweet !

  14. Firlotte Says:

I’m torn between 1″ and 3/4″ rings… never been very decisive I guess

  15. William Round Says:

    I would love this

  16. Kevin Says:

3/4″ - I would love to carry this to meetings.

  17. Marilse Says:

Beautiful design. Colors are great. 3/4″ rings should be more than enough - anything more than that, and one would be apt to carry around too many dead cards.

  18. Mary Merrifield Says:

    great color!!!

    1 inch is great

  19. Marti Says:

wow. I’m a new card user, and this looks wonderful! I’d love to give it a try -

  20. Kate Says:

Either the 3/4 or the 1″. Looks gorgeous.

  21. Amalia Hermosillo Says:

It looks fantastic and is unique but I wonder how it would look if there were actual papers in the flap?

  22. Roz Says:

I love this with the larger 1″ rings and the leather pen loop. Interesting color combo.

  23. Rachel Says:

    3/4 ” as it’s not so bulky–Love it!

  24. Ingrid Says:

1/2 ” rings for portability. The rest of the cards would get filed in a box at home.

  25. Tree Frog Says:

I’d say 3/4″…kinda the perfect mix of portability and storage.

    That’s a beautiful little binder!

  26. Nicole Says:

When would these be available for purchase?

A 1-inch binder with slash pocket and pen loop would be ideal for me! Schedules, chores, children’s information, important numbers and more!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep me updated on when I can purchase one!

  27. bryan Says:

1″ rings work for me - it would be portable (big hands), and hold more stuff. I might be able to shove a PDA in the front :-)

  28. Martine Says:

I would love the 3/4 inch ring and pen loop, not too bulky. Love the blue.

  29. Tait Says:

    3/4″.

I second the nomination for D-rings - not just for extra carrying capacity; they also line up the card better. It would be worth an extra couple of bucks in materials cost.

  30. Donna Says:

Great idea - I like the 1″ version

  31. David Says:

I vote 3/4″ - compromise between portable and holding enough cards

  32. Cathy Says:

I vote for the d-rings, since the papers flip so much easier, but I would go with the 1/2 or 3/4″ rings as the 1″ might be to big for this small binder

  33. Flo Says:

i am a law student so normally i need a lot of notecards. so 1″ for me.

  34. Finn Says:

With 3-4 different work - fulltime and voluntary - I use a lot of 3×5 cards.
I combined writing on paper with digital work - can’t do without both.
Would love to try it out/see it on your website.

  35. Lori Says:

I submit another vote for D-rings, or 3/4″ or 1″ O-rings; the colors are unexpected and pleasing; the holes in the front cover are innovative–makes for a slimmer footprint, it would seem. Lovely and eye-catching!

  36. Ted Says:

3/4″ rings to keep down the bulk, and D-rings would be great if available.

  37. Sabrina Says:

Trying so hard to get Organized. Would be a great thing to add.

  38. Mary Says:

I think that the rings should be 3/4″. I am really using 3×5 cards as notepaper now and need to store these in this nice-looking folder/holder. I use cards for memory verses and summaries of classes I attend.

  39. Brantley Says:

The color of the leather is perfect and the blue interior is out of the ordinary, but quite unique. Good call on the burly pen loop. I would stick with the 3/4″ rings, perhaps switching to D-Rings for ease of use. Anything bigger, while being a boon with more cards, would be too bulky to easily carry every day. Sharp product. I’d love to give one a try when and if they come available.

  40. Joanna Says:

Another vote for 1 inch rings - index cards are quite thick, so even a rather small number adds up quickly. I like the fact that it’s colorful, too, and not boring.

  41. Ginger Says:

I love the 1″ because cards are pretty thick, and if it were any smaller you really couldn’t fit too many in there….

  42. Peggy Says:

Love the color combination! Go Broncos!

I agree that the 1 inch rings would be good to use with card stock filler.

  43. Mr.JLO Says:

I am just starting to use 3×5 cards to organize my task and for quick notes. I was thinking of “borowing” my wife’s cheep plastic 3×5 case but this one looks much much better. I hope I win. otherwize I’ll have to go to your store front and get one
    JLO

  44. David Says:

I would prefer the 3/4 — D rings preferred. I like the cover cut outs, I think that is helpful in reducing overall bulk.

I like the color combination too.

  45. Hector Garcia Says:

I love the prototype. 1/2″ rings would be perfect thickness for pocket portability. 3/4″ rings is a second choice; Not interested in 1 inch binder due to bulkyness. Any Consideration of a 3-rings binder instead of 2 rings?

  46. Cathy Says:

Love it just the way it is. Love to win an original prototype for a test drive. Thanks!

  47. Teresa Says:

I say 1 inch because you don’t have to fill it. If you have a smaller version and fill it, need more room then you can’t go any where. Love the colours…actually made me gasp at the beauty.

  48. Sheila Cribb Says:

The 1 inch would work for me. Love the cutouts for the ring to reduce size. perfect for on the go people.

  49. Jo Says:

It’s a practical design - you could get away with 1″ rings as the cutout in the front will prevent too much bulk…

  50. Clare Says:

Love the look, 1″ for me would be great.

  51. Jo Wade Says:

Would be great to keep all the student info I need ( as a teacher) right at my fingertips.

  52. Elena Antonelli Says:

I am new to your website but I like what I see so far!

  53. Stephen Says:

The folder looks great. Can you tell me if the holes are punched at the standard distance (for us Europeans who are used to two hole and four hole - 888 punchings).

    Thanks

    Steve

  54. Esmeralda Marie Says:

I like the fact that it small and I can put my affirmation cards in it.

  55. Julie Says:

Warm on the outside, cool on the inside, love the colors! One half inch rings might be too small. The pen holder is snazzy and looks very secure.

  56. Daniel Williams Says:

    beautiful design

  57. Marigene Bender Says:

3/4 inch rings would be perfect. Great looking, smart. Would love to have one.

  58. Lucy Says:

Love it. Would vote for 3/4 inch rings. Don’t change the colors.

  59. Ruth Says:

This is beautiful and functional! I want it!

  60. Lisa Says:

Absolutely love it… I want one please…….. I vote for the 3/4 in rings

  61. Kathy Says:

I beleive this is exactly what my grandson is looking for to start with the habit of writing things down at the time he thinks of it.

  62. christine hall Says:

I thinks this is a great book to have handy and put down all your project ideas in…

  63. Olin Fortney Says:

I love the slits for the rings. Terrific color combo, keep it that way!

  64. weavers2 Says:

3/4″ for me! Absolutely love the colors, bulky pen loop and cover cutouts! I would think that D rings would help to keep it flat while flipping through! I hope they are available soooon!!

  65. becky bennett Says:

    very attractive. i would use

  66. Monna Johnson Says:

Great as it is. I find the bigger the ring the more I carry and it isn’t necessarily the right things that I carry.

    Good job.

  67. Wayne W. Says:

Would be interested in purchasing this as an organizer. The 3/4″ size would be the most useful size for my purposes. (Though I would probably end up with the 1″ thick version.) The stiching around the D-ring cutouts make this a very attractive notebook.

  68. Katrina Says:

I love it! I vote for the 3/4″–just prefer the slimmer profile.

  69. Jane B Says:

Wonderful idea. I’d go for the 1″ to accommodate as many cards as possible.

  70. Kevin Says:

    Very nice, sleek!
    I love school supplies =|

  71. bobbcat Says:

Where/when can I purchase this item? It looks like it’d be perfect for the purpose I have in mind for it. Meantime, I make do with my Ringdex.

  72. linda hart Says:

I’d sure love to try your 1″ binder this school year.

  73. Glory Wine Says:

Looks like it would help keep me on track. Would love to try it!

  74. Harry Blanchard Says:

I would vote for 3/4 bit 1 is fine.

  75. MJ Says:

It is great just as is. Sure would be a good catch. The 1 inch is best.

  76. Karin Carlson Says:

MMM…. lovely. 1″ really isn’t that thick and since cards are thick I think that would be best.

  77. ArchiMark Says:

FWIW, I’d be very interested in a version of this that utilizes the Circa or Rollabind disc system…..then you have great flexibility of moving papers around within the binder, ie, for me more convenient ( I have the right paper punch for this….).

Would like this option in small size and letter size paper too…. ;-)

    Thanks!

  78. superbleu Says:

These look great, I would suggest the smaller 1/2″ size to maximize portability and take up less room in my bag.

  79. cappydawg Says:

I like the design and the size. I am always making notes about software and techy stuff. I also agree with the 3/4 inch size. I think you got something here with this little gem.

  80. Joan Grove Says:

Great concept! I’d love the 3/4″ size and would love to purchase. Hope this gets me on a list to know when and where to purchase!
    Thanks,
    Joan Grove

  81. genine Says:

Is this one up for sale or giveaway? I’d be interested in it!

  82. Antonio Marcos G. Abussafi Says:

It´s very beatyfull, i think black leather wold be more classic.
My preference would be for ring size 3/4.

  83. deb Says:

It is a beautiful index size binder! I’d love to have it!! Well thought out classic design. Kudos to you!

  86. Debra Says:

Nothing to comment on other than great idea and love the design.

  87. Lil Pip Says:

That is a great look and I like the rustic leather look.

  88. angel waters Says:

Love the concept. I would add a pocket for holding a business card/owners return if lost details slip.

I’d lose the inside cover stitched pocket and use a clip to hold blank cards or scrible pad or catch the days receipts and bits and pieces.

    Cheers.

    Angel

  89. Heather Says:

Love the design! I would go with 3/4″ rings to keep the profile slim.

  90. Jon Says:

Very nice. Any thoughts on one for 4×6 cards

  91. Marlys Shomber-Jones Says:

    I want to win!

  92. Tedra Says:

    What a great color combination!

  93. George Says:

Using 3 X 5 cards are really catching on, so having more binders for them will be a given. The binder looks great.

  94. Denise Says:

This is spectacular! Great for school and Christmas gift logs (sizes and colors on one card per person), for quick notes in the small handbags, for integrating into larger planners. Super design, great colors! Love it.

  95. Mike Pascoe Says:

Looks wonderful and stylish. Who says PDA’s are more fashionable? I prefer the good old fashioned analogue versions!

Anway this is a great design; I would love to own one.

  96. mary hoover Says:

Maybe it is my lucky day. product is awesome

  97. Linda O. Says:

    Perfect!! Functional and fun!

  98. Eric Says:

Looks great, i would go with the 3/4 rings!

  99. Deb Says:

This looks great - I could absolutely use this!

  100. Joanne Says:

Mmmm… a new planner - full of possibilities. I’d like the 1″, as I’ve got lots of stuff. How about a 6×4 version - easier to cut A4 printables into 4… Bright wishes with the development!

  101. Cathy Ames Says:

I think the 3/4 ring would be my first choice. What a great product!

  102. Laura Harrington Says:

I’m a prof, have tons of notes, etc. and say “3/4 inch all the way”. At some point, having more space is diminishing returns. 3/4 inch is enough to have wat you need without bringing the kitchen sink. Like the pen, too…

  103. Karen Says:

Beautiful! Would like 1″ rings. Kind of big for cards, but I use them a lot.

  104. Dawn Says:

One inch as shown - absolutely. That thing is beautiful! Love, love, love the pen loop too. It’s big enough and good protection for a nice pen. Great stuff.

  105. Kelley Says:

1/2 in is too tight..and 1 inch is too big–3/4 is just right!

  106. Sherry Says:

This would be GREAT for the military and fit in our cargo pockets!

  107. Jill Brantley Says:

I want to buy one. PLEASE tell me how. jill

  108. MJ Hoover Says:

    hope it is me

  109. Miriam Says:

I have been looking for weeks to find a 2-ring index card binder. I prefer the 3/4 inch rings and tell me….when will it be ready please!?! Christmas on your list of possibilities?

  110. online stock trading advice Says:

Hey, I found your blog in a new directory of blogs. I dont know how your blog came up, must have been a typo, anyway cool blog, I bookmarked you. :)

    I’m Out! :)

  111. Franking Machines Says:

I think 1inch would be perfect because you never know what you might need them for apart from cards. I know that carry too much is not wise. But I guess I love to stick to the safe side and opt for a bigger size just in case for those emergent times. Great post. And I love the card binder, lovely.
